This week we feature mysteries that are somewhat light (Miss Scarlet and the Duke), somewhat dark (The Alienist), somewhat romantic (The Discovery of Witches) and somewhat strange (WandaVision). And then on the opposite end of all of this, we have a somehow realistic comedic drama from France, Call My Agent! (photo above is Juliette Binoche from an episode of Season 3).
1 Miss Scarlet and the Duke
A female private detective and a Scotland Yard Duke in Victorian London is our cup of tea. It is lightly entertaining and there is perfect chemistry between Miss Scarlet (Kate Phillips) and the Duke (Stuart Martin). It brings back 1980’s memories of Remington Steele and Moonlighting but perhaps even more simmering because of the corsets. Also Kate Philipps’ portrayal comes across as comfortably confident in a “don’t underestimate my cheery Cheryl Ladd/ Charlie’s Angels/Kris Munroe” demeanor. We cannot wait for a second season from PBS Masterpiece.
2 The Alienist
For a darker crime mystery there are 2 Seasons available on TNT starring Daniel Brühl, Dakota Fanning and Luke Evans. The gaslights make this more dark and disturbing.
3 A Discovery of Witches
Season 2 is back on AMC. Star-crossed Vampires and Witches can be romantic with the right casting. Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer definitely are pitch perfect casting.
4 WandaVision
WandaVision is Disney+ television mini series based on the Marvel Comics characters (Wanda Maximoff) Scarlet Witch and Vision starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. While at first the show may seem silly, sticking with it as the series promises to unfold and surprising and creative ways.
5 Call My Agent!
Four talent agents take us behind the scenes of the wild world of celebrity and business against the backdrop of the fictional boutique talent agency A.S.K. wherein their professional and personal lives often collide. A growing list of real French actors play themselves which brings a real world believability to the comedic foils and fables of the ensemble characters. It is truly worth reading the subtitles for this French series.

COMPLETE MONDIALISTE WATCHLISTS
Anyone who knows us, knows we love our movies, series and specials. We are massive consumers of all media. We watch cable, streaming and (usually) we’d go to the cinema once or twice a week and on major holidays.
Here are links to our watchlists for viewing at home.
These are updated often.
IMDB SERIES WATCHLIST
IMDB COMEDY WATCHLIST
IMDB MOVIE WATCHLIST
You can sort these lists by rating, release date, etc. when you get to the page.
Unfortunately, IMDB won’t let us rate more accurately only by whole numbers 1-10. Me along with a lot of people would like to be able to rate a show 8.6. It is difficult to have to choose between giving just an 8 or a 9. There have been a lot of requests.
Watch crime dramas mostly. They make me feel that no matter how dark the world is, things tend to become right in the end. They always catch the bad guy. The truth always comes out. You will find some periods dramas and some comedies but murder mysteries and detective procedurals are our favorites
(I also tend to have boring normal dreams when I watch these shows. While when I don’t, I have strange mystery sci-fi dreams. Is this the case with anyone else in the world?)
