Watch BRIDGERTON on Netflix. It is a Shonda Rhimes offering which can be summed up as gossip girl + period drama +risqué romance (sex…sex… and more sex). Sometimes you just want to be entertained.
2 The Queen’s Gambit
If you haven’t seen it yet, the biggest Netflix hit is The Queen’s Gambit a Cold War era orphan struggles to become the best chess player in the world. It is thoroughly enjoyable, captivating, flawlessly shot, casted, acted and directed. You can enjoy it even if you are not into chess. Actually, it might get you interested in chess. It is a perfect 10. Now, what makes it all even more interesting and inspiring is the show’s background story and message detailed in this article by Inc Magazine.
Netflix’s Most Popular Show Is an Overnight Success that Took 30 Years to Make The Queen’s Gambit is the classic example of why perseverance matters.
To put this in perspective. 30 years ago there was no Netflix and the show’s star Anya Taylor-Joy wasn’t even born.
3 The Mandalorian
The Mandalorian has been described as a space Western from the Star Wars franchise. Directed by Jon Favreau and starring stand out Pedro Pascal as a bounty hunter who is hired to retrieve “The Child” a.k.a (the scene-stealing) Baby Yoda. It recently had the Season 2 finale and we can’t wait for a 3rd Season. Disney also ended the season with announcement of new series The Book Of Boba Fett slated for Dec 2021.

4 Borgen
The great news is that all three seasons of the Danish political drama are now on Netflix. The show while Danish actually illustrates how having only two viable political parties in the United States is the source of much of our political troubles today.
Netflix and DR are working on a 4th season for airing in 2022.
Furthermore, the English-dubbing is actually good. It is so jarring when Netflix dubs Scandinavian and European shows with badly-acted Los Angeles accented actors. We still cannot get over The Valhalla Murders, Bordertown and Dark’s English-dubbing. Seriously Netflix, please hire European actors to dub in English or American actors who can act well enough to speak with neutral accents rather than the LA twang. In the case of Borgen, we know most (if not all) of the screen actors can speak English. Some of them starred in Game if Thrones (Pilou Asbæk) and West World (Sidse Babett Knudsen).
5 Love and Monsters
It is an apocalyptic adventure movie. It has been out since Oct 2020 but we only got around to streaming it this week. Watch it for somewhat of a light action movie. It is entertaining and has some poignant moments. Love and Monsters is available for rent online through Amazon and other most other services.
6 The Flight Attendant
A flight attendant wakes up in bed with a dead man and no clear recollection of what happened. It’s a whodunit that works with the clever casting of Kaley Cuoco. All 8 episodes are available on HBO Max. A second season was ordered on Dec 2020.
7 Ted Lasso
This series is based on the title character Jason Sudeikis portrayed in a series of promos for NBC Sports’ coverage of the Premier League. Ted Lasso goes to London to coach a Premier League team. It’s charming and has many poignant moments. You’ll want to binge-watch the whole first season on Apple TV+. The show has been renewed for both a 2nd and 3rd season.
8 Shakespeare & Hathaway
This BBC British daytime drama mystery series has 3 seasons streaming and has been renewed for a 4th season for 2021. Daytime drama means it is not as “dark” as other mystery series. It has comedic cosy moments. It is about a private investigators solving crimes. Think of 1980’s Remington Steele and Moonlighting crime solving scenarios minus the glam and romance. Shakespeare & Hathaway is available through Britbox.
9 Zen
This BBC Series starring Rufus Sewell is not new. It was released in 2011 as three 90 minute episodes to the series. This is a hidden gem for crime fans. Detective Aurelio Zen brings justice to modern-day Italy with charm and flair. We only wish they made more episodes as author Michael Dibdin created 11 Aurelio Zen books. Zen is available on Britbox.
10 Lupin
Omar Sy plays a charming thief in the new Netflix series Lupin. This is the latest vehicle inspired by the character of the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin created 1by the French writer Maurice Leblanc in 1905.
11 Pretend It’s a City
Wander the New York City streets and fascinating mind of wry writer, humorist and raconteur Fran Lebowitz as she sits down with Martin Scorsese.
I haven’t seen Lupin nor Pretend It’s a City since they just got released but I will be watching them this weekend after viewing these trailers.

Unfortunately, IMDB won’t let us rate more accurately only by whole numbers 1-10. Me along with a lot of people would like to be able to rate a show 8.6. It is difficult to have to choose between giving just an 8 or a 9. There have been a lot of requests.
Watch crime dramas mostly. They make me feel that no matter how dark the world is, things tend to become right in the end. They always catch the bad guy. The truth always comes out. You will find some periods dramas and some comedies but murder mysteries and detective procedurals are our favorites
(I also tend to have boring normal dreams when I watch these shows. While when I don’t, I have strange mystery sci-fi dreams. Is this the case with anyone else in the world?)
